About the Album

A father's tender electronic music, capturing the childhood years of his child.

When his child was born in the winter of 2015, much of An Sangwook's daily life changed. He and his wife chose to raise their child without relying on extended family, instead building their routine entirely around childcare institutions and their own teamwork. Though he initially feared losing the freedom of late-night sessions and rehearsals, the constraints of a fixed schedule proved surprisingly well-suited to his temperament. Once the child had settled into daycare, kindergarten, and eventually elementary school, he maintained a steady studio routine from roughly 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.—except on performance days.

In 2025, the child turned ten. Now in the upper years of elementary school, they have grown far beyond their parents' hopes and worries. Looking back over the decade, childcare was unquestionably the central task of his life: preparing weekday dinners and helping with homework, making side dishes and pressing a Taekwondo uniform on weekends, occasionally baking bread for the family. Yet his work never faltered. A musician who once knew only percussion, he steadily practiced piano, pursued long-delayed music studies, and continued creating and performing under his own name. Growth, it turns out, was not the child's alone.

Childhood is the musical record of those accumulated years spent together. Though rooted in deeply personal memories, the album was made with a strong desire to leave a lasting testament that the past decade—lived simultaneously as a father and a musician—had genuine meaning.

Every instrument featured on the album (Moog and Prophet synthesizers, two Ace Tone drum machines, and a Yamaha YD45 transistor organ) was purchased and mastered after the child's birth, when An Sangwook first entered the world of electronic music. Organizing a phone overflowing with photos and videos of his child while composing the album's thirteen tracks was, by his own account, the happiest period of his life as a musician. A long-held wish to craft warm, humorous electronic music found its fullest expression through the time shared with his child.

All illustrations throughout the album were drawn by the child. The cover is a recolored version of a sketch titled "Dad and Me" made during kindergarten; the back cover features the album's instruments rendered on a tablet. The album closes with love and gratitude—for the child who grew alongside him over ten years, and for his wife, his most steadfast creative partner. It is offered as gentle background music for anyone navigating the busy, beautiful balance of work and parenthood.

Important Notes for LP Purchases

Jacket / Contents / Packaging

  • Minor jacket creasing, corner denting, or cracking—where no playback defect exists—is not grounds for return or exchange.
  • The inner sleeve may crack through contact with the disc; this is not considered a defect.
  • Disc labels may not adhere perfectly due to the manufacturing process.
  • Damage to outer shrink wrap that does not affect the product itself is not grounds for exchange or return.

Playback Issues

  • Turntables without tonearm weight adjustment (typically all-in-one models) may skip on tracks with wide dynamic range due to a lightweight tonearm. Playback issues caused by the playback device are not eligible for return or exchange; a turntable with adjustable tonearm weight is recommended.
  • Static electricity or dust on the disc can cause irregular playback; this can usually be resolved with a dedicated cleaning product.
  • Dust accumulation on the stylus needle may also cause playback irregularities.

Disc Condition

  • The disc surface may appear slightly uneven or warped. Returns or exchanges are only accepted when an actual playback defect is present.
  • The center hole may be manufactured slightly small to minimize distortion and maintain consistency during repeated playback. If it does not fit the turntable spindle, a dedicated center-hole adjustment tool can resolve the issue.
  • Minor surface marks or imperfect finishing may occasionally appear. Returns or exchanges are only accepted when an actual playback defect is present.

Color Disc

  • The actual color of the disc may differ from images shown online.
  • Color variation between individual pressings is inherent to the color disc manufacturing process.
  • Small dots or traces of other color dye may appear on color discs as a result of production.

Exchange & Return

  • For exchange or return requests due to a clear manufacturing defect, please contact customer support with photos and/or video confirming the defect, along with the model name of your playback device.
  • As LP jackets are highly susceptible to damage through repeated shipping and are difficult to resell, returns due to accidental purchase or change of mind cannot be accepted. Please purchase carefully.
